Dr. Atkins pioneered the low carb revolu


The late Dr. Atkins is renown worldwide for his "Atkins Diet". He believes carbohydrates are the main source of obesity. Obesity is a risk factor for serious diseases such as type II diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease. Dr. Atkins advocates that by reducing your carbohydrate intake you will not only lose weight but you will reap enormous health benefits.



Dr. Atkins was a cardiologist, nutritionist, and author. He graduated from the University of Michigan with bachelor of arts degree. He received his M. D. from Cornell University in in 1955 and completed an internship at Strong Hospital, Rochester, New York, 1955-56. He completed a residency in medicine at the Columbia University Hospital, New York City 1956-58. He also completed a residency in Cardiology at St. Luke's Hospital, New York City, 1958-1959. Dr. Atkins entered into the private practice of Internal Medicine in New York City, beginning in 1959.

Dr. Atkins was member of numerous societies: International Academy of Preventive Medicine, International Academy of Metabiology, International College of Applied Nutrition.

Dr. Atkins is the author of numerous books and articles appearing in magazines and periodicals. The Atkins New Diet Revolution (1999) is flying off the bookstore shelves. According to a recent BBC series entitled Diet Trials, the Atkins Diet is one of the four most popular diets in the world.

Despite any criticism the "Atkins Diet" has received, millions of Americans are turning to the diet to lose weight and to protect their health. The diet has been proven to cause weight loss, lower blood sugar levels, and increase good cholesterol (HDL) blood levels.

Dr. Atkins had appeared on many television talk shows prior to his death, promoting the Atkins diet and to supports it's rationale.
